"Busiest Town - Friendliest People"
Welcome to the De Leon Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Home Page. Whether you are visiting our web site or planning a trip to our friendly town, we want your experience with us to be pleasant and memorable.
De Leon was established in 1881 by the Houston and Texas Central Railroad and named due to its close proximity to the Leon River, De Leon is home to Texas' Largest Fruit Farm, the largest peanut shelling plant in the U.S., and more than 10,000 acres of pecan trees used for pecan production.
The area is popular with hunters searching for doves, quail, deer, and turkeys plentiful during season. Fishing and water activities are popular on nearby Lake Proctor. Also, don't miss the 'Weeping Oak,' the town's great oak tree, which has been featured in "Ripley's Believe It or Not," that has limbs growing downward.
Come visit some of our area attractions like the Wall of Recall, which was restored with old advertisements from the 1940's, Higginbotham Brother Building- one of the oldest buildings in the community - restored and made into a classy restaurant called "The Blue Moon,"and Terrill Antique Car Museum, which features several rare automobiles, some more than 100 years old.
De Leon is also home to Texas' oldest Peach and Melon Festival, which is held Tues.- Sat. during the first full week in August. Come join us for our annual Wildflower Bar-B-Que cook off held in April. You will want to come for a visit and stay for a lifetime.
